Spotlight: Reza Rahadian

The SPOTLIGHT program serves as a new platform at ARTJOG for connecting the art world with other formal sectors. Alongside efforts to nurture and expand our network, this effort emphasises ARTJOG’s position as a festival that welcomes various forms of collaboration and joint work. In addition to opening up the opportunities for involvement, this programme also offers an artistic approach for the shared realization of concepts and ideas without compromising on identity.

ARTJOG presents Reza Rahadian’s installation piece as part of an artistic project commemorating his 20-year career in acting. Referencing ancient Greek philosophy, ‘eudaimonia’ can be defined as a true state of happiness born out of a meaningful purpose. It is hoped that this work can mark a process of an endless journey to find balance in life, as well as finding new achievements that are beneficial to many people. The work Eudaimonia is the result of his collaboration with various artists and creators across various fields, such as Garin Nugroho (Director), Siko Setyanto, (Choreographer), Aditya Surya Taruna (Composer), Andra Matin (Architect), and Davy Linggar (Photographer and Videographer).

Reza Rahadian

Eudaimonia in ancient Greek philosophy can be defined as the good life, well-being or true happiness. Rather than mere pleasure, eudaimonia focuses on self-fulfillment through meaningful goals.

For actors, eudaimonia is a moment of finding balance between wants and needs, behavioral character and play character, noise and silence. Actors use their bodies, minds, creativity, and talents to continue learning, processing, transforming, innovating, and collaborating for new and beneficial achievements for many people. Through acting and authorship, they are in a never-ending process and, in the end, it's all about the body moving and feeling.

Reza Rahadian Matulessy (born March 5, 1987), better known as Reza Rahadian, is an Indonesian actor who gained recognition after starring in the film Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (2009). Since winning his first Piala Citra in 2009, he has acted in more than 70 films, ranging from comedies and romances to dramas, biopics, and horror films.

Throughout his career, he has received five Piala Citra awards from the Indonesian Film Festival, a best actor award from the Asia Pacific Film Festival (APFF) 2017 for Rudy Habibie (2016), and other accolades. He was selected as a participant of Berlin Talent 2016 and appointed as the Chairman of the Indonesian Film Festival Committee for the years 2021-2023.

As a director, Reza has directed a short film, Sebelah (2011), an anthology film, Wanita Tetap Wanita (2013), and a miniseries, Sementara Selamanya (2020). His short film, Sebelah, won the best short film award from the indie film festival LA Lights Movie Award in 2012. As a writer, he has written a book titled Mereka Yang Pertama (2025) published by Gramedi Pustaka Utama. Currently, he is preparing for his debut as the director of a feature-length film titled Pangku which will be released in 2025.
